SABAQ is an education solution designed to supplement regular instruction at school in primary grades and to provide out-of-school children (OOSC) with access to high-quality content that helps them develop literacy and numeracy skills. It is designed to be engaging and interactive, includes animated video lessons, interactive exercises, live-shot video lessons, and gamebook and story-based instructional content.

The content is aligned with Pakistan’s National Curriculum. SABAQ content is developed (or adapted from open source education materials) and distributed on pre-loaded, customized tablets to schools and SABAQ Centres (non-formal) via customers/implementing partners. In addition to developing content and providing pre-loaded tablets, SABAQ trains partners to use the content and integrate SABAQ content into their programmes (the model may vary from partner to partner).

In 2016-17, SABAQ tested their solution in government schools in Lahore and Karachi and in informal learning centres in Mirpurkhas in Sindh. The results were promising: children using SABAQ scored significantly higher in tests of literacy and numeracy than a comparable group of children who did not use their content.

SABAQ is scaling up their solution by working with a range of partners including the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), The Citizens Foundation and The American Refugee Council and through sales of their product to private schools and parents.

By the end of 2020, SABAQ aims to have reached 100,000 out of school children with SABAQ content and to have their product widely used in public and private schools across Pakistan.
